LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has claimed that Liverpool are "lucky" to have Jurgen Klopp as their manager.

The German coach was appointed as Brendan Rodgers's successor in October - three months after Gerrard left his boyhood club for MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Reds have struggled for consistency under the former Borussia Dortmund boss, but they have the chance to win silverware in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday.

"I'm a huge fan," Gerrard told CNN. "I was a big fan at Dortmund and I think we're very lucky to have him at Liverpool.

"I struck up a bit of a relationship with him. I'm hoping with my fingers crossed that as a Liverpool fan he can get us trophies and bring us some success."

Liverpool sealed an emphatic 6-0 triumph over Aston Villa last weekend, but they sit eighth in the Premier League table, nine points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
